A Vision for essex

  • As I look towards the future, I see Essex at a turning point.  Our recent separation from the City of Essex Junction has created a number of hurdles for our residents but it is also a wealth of opportunity.  We have the power to define our Essex community moving forward. As we build towards Essex’s future, I believe we should ensure that our community is both welcoming and affordable. Essex residents should be able to work, live and play in our beautiful community.  As a father of young children I want Essex to continue to be the family-friendly place that I grew up in.

  • Families should be able to live, work, and play in our community. I have always seen Essex to be a town people are drawn to for a variety of reasons. From the excellent schools, to the convenient balance of rural/urban living, Essex is an ideal place to live. While I am excited about ways to enhance our community it is critical for us to responsibly budget for the future and look for creative ways to bring revenue into the Town without raising taxes.

  • As a father of young children and the son to aging parents, I have seen the need first hand that Essex should become more accessible and connected. For example the Indian Brook reservoir loop trail should be accessible to all Essex residents from those in strollers to those using walkers and wheelchairs. Additionally, I believe we should have actual public access to the Winooski River. I will strive to build upon the strong family-friendly foundation Essex has always embodied. I want to continue to grow this aspect which will lead to making Essex more walkable, attracting new businesses, and enhancing our incredible natural resources.

  • For the last 3 years I have served  on the Essex Trails and Conservation Committee. I have worked with community leaders, businesses, and nonprofits to help maintain our natural resources: from fighting the Emerald Ash Borer, to organizing volunteer-powered Indian Brook clean-ups, to providing input on proposed development projects within the Town. I look forward to continuing to build upon this work on the Selectboard. One thing that makes Essex unique is our commitment to preserving the natural beauty of our home with strategic and purposeful growth.
